Amazing music. Amazing record label. Thank you.

Thank you so much for listening! No new releases are currently in the works, some interesting Vupiano-related plans are carrying on in the background however, stay tuned…

King Elizabeth’s MIAMI (VULP-0038) is the follow-up to previous Vulpiano Records release Obsessive Desires (2011). King Elizabeth is a true solo artist, performing all the vocals and instrumentation, beginning in 2002 in Staffordshire, England. With influences including Joy Division, The Cure, U2, Stone Roses, The Associates, Comsat Angels, and John Digweed, the sounds of MIAMI hearken back to the heyday of post-punk and synth-pop, but without forgoing a modern edge and individual style. MIAMI opens gradually with a creeping electro-industrial tune, “On These Streets”. Stand-out tracks “Fame”, “The American”, and “Blue Lagoon” incorporate funky guitar elements into a dreamy a synth soundscape. “Miami Sunrise” closes the album nicely with a combination of aspects found across this album that make it so enjoyable - an extended intro, danceability, and insistent vocals.

the narrow musketeer’s self-titled release (VULP-0037) is out now! The new incarnation of Le Fils des Trois Mousquetaires (Belgium) includes some Le Fils tracks reworked and mastered, while preserving a lo-fi atmosphere and even making use of background noise to create a faux violin effect (“ripper wave”), as well as new material. As ever, the artist is shrouded in obscurity, greeting the potential listener with a surreal net art-savvy cover. the narrow musketeer is melancholy, melodic, and mysterious, beginning with a a stand-out opener, “ripper wave”, and carried forth with sweet sadness in songs like “easy girl”, “entomology”, and “rockets”. Grunge-esque “porcelain flu” turns the mood around in a surprisingly fun direction, before the mood slowly shifts back to the tender acoustics the narrow musketeer is so adept at, with “the island”. Overall, the narrow musketeer has succeeded in honing a sound and mood of their own, unafraid to add in a few surprises (“porcelain flu” and several curious interlude tracks) in between.

Vulpiano Records is Looking for a Volunteer Promoter!

VOLUNTEER PROMOTER - Description:

As a promoter, your chief duty would be to submit Vulpiano Records songs and album downloads to relevant music blogs and podcasts for consideration, with a focus on those that feature artists that are: independent, unsigned, and/or artists in the genres that Vulpiano specializes in (ambient, electronic, and acoustic). As a perk, you’ll be able to listen to Vulpiano releases as soon as they’re available - before they hit the website! Social media experience and music blogosphere awareness preferred. Interested in the position and more info? Contact netlabel owner Marilyn Roxie with “Vulpiano Records” in the subject: marilynroxie@gmail.com

—-About Vulpiano Records—-

Vulpiano Records isn’t an ordinary label. Vulpiano is a collective and a community. The concept behind Vulpiano is simple: to offer quality free music. Genres we specialize in are ambient, electronic, and acoustic. All artists are linked by their spirit of independence and experimentation. We hope you enjoy and share the music.

Vulpiano Records was launched in November 2009 by synth musician Marilyn Roxie, initially as a place to house unsigned and independent artists they had gotten to know from networking on Last.fm and submissions to Roxie’s music blog, A Future in Noise. These artists got on board with Roxie’s vision of a free music collective. The music is licensed under Creative Commons to encourage sharing of this fabulous music with friends and through blogs and podcasts.

Top-listened to artists on the label as of early 2012 according to Last.fm scrobbles are Natural Snow Buildings, Fire Island Pines, and Anton Rothschild.

Vulpiano Artist Fire Island Pines' "Bratislava" featured on Dry Route to Devon Compilation! ⇢

Compilation is freely downloadable here as as available in purchasable form via Art is Art Records - check it out!: http://artishardrecords.bandcamp.com/album/dry-route-to-devon

For Dry Route to Devon we handpicked 11 bands and artists from the Southwest that we’ve enjoyed listening to over the last couple of months. As ever with our releases we have tried to avoid doing it conventionally and will be releasing Dry Route to Devon as an A3 double sided map. In the location of each of the bands is a QR code, which when scanned with a smartphone will take listeners to an individual page where they can stream the song, as well as reading interviews, lyrics, information about when and where the track was recorded and tons of exclusive content and downloads - only available to those who purchase the map.

Vulpiano Records hiatus until late 2011/early 2012…

Note from Marilyn Roxie: Due to my intense college workload, I am not able to put in as much time into shaping and promoting Vulpiano Records as before so, along with the planning of a couple of upcoming releases later this year / early 2012, there will be no new releases for now. Please do continue to submit your music for consideration on the label, explore our catalog, and share Vulpiano music with others. Thank you for listening! If you are interested in becoming part of the Vulpiano team to evaluate submissions and write release descriptions, please contact marilynroxie@gmail.com

Review at Recent music heroes: Vulpiano - Sampler EP: Vol. 3 (2011) ⇢

From the review:

8.8

/Doom rock, Alternative rock, Fuzz pop, Indie rock, Psych-rock, Experimental rock, Electronic pop, Crossover/

Comment: First off, what a pity that Natural Snow Building, the most well known artist (and one of the best/deepest/idiosyncratic combos worldwide at all) on Vulpiano Records is not represented herein now (though, this time the compilation features the new Vulpiano logo designed by Solange Gularte). Yet, this is an intricate volume hinting at Vulpiano as the strong label. It veers from King Elizabeth-represented slowly evoking doom rock to Red Bellows´s psych/post-Britpop sound a la Campaq Velocet, from an vital electronic pop vision by J.G Hackett to a sultry introspection by Lately Kind of Yeah. Furthermore, you can perceive influences veering from pop psychedelia a la Boo Radleys and Blur to fuzz pop. Indeed, by its dominating alternative rock/and pop-inflected electronica-based approach it reminds of miscellanies compiled by NME in the second half of 90`s/first side of 00s.

The latest Vulpiano Records compilation Sampler EP: Vol. 3(VULP-0036; also check out Vol. 1 and Vol. 2) is out now! Showing off the netlabel’s specialties, electronic, folk, and indie-pop, as well as containing a couple of experimental and post-punk surprises, this offering is yet another fabulous way to get acquainted with Vulpiano Records. This is the first of the compilation series to feature the new Vulpiano fox logo, designed by Solange Gularte of Natural Snow Buildings.

The Long Afternoon originally formed as an indie rock group in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1985. Dissolving in the late ’80s, guitarist and vocalist Eston Martz carried on studying music and, inspired by the reunions of Wire and Mission of Burma, Martz returned to the studio and reformed The Long Afternoon with drummer Greg Elliott and former Seen bassist Jeff Edmunds. The band released The Luxury Problem (2006) and Signifying Nothing (2009), with third album An Index of Maladjustments (2011) coming August 16, 2011.
Swinging Singles (VULP-0035) is an EP compilation of tracks from previous Long Afternoon releases The Luxury Problem (“That’s Not What You Said”, “On the Plane”) and Signifying Nothing (“Never Tell”, “Intent”, “How Did I Get So Far From Where I Should Have Been”, “Bother”). Swinging Singles shows off the variety in mood and style the Long Afternoon are capable of, from angular, spirited and fiery (“On a Plane”) to cinematic and mood-lifting (“Bother”). An excellent introduction to the band.
